I am selling my 1979 Z-28 Camaro. I am the third owner of the car. The car has original mileage of 78,800 and I am the third documented owner. The car was restored in the spring of 2008 and I have driven the car only 2,800 miles since restoration. I have detailed receipts for the restoration in the amount of $17,667 with a total investment in the car of about $26,000. All of the restoration was performed by top professionals in my area of Columbia, Maryland.
This car was originally set up with a 350 motor with a Borg-Warner four speed with a non-posi 3:73 rear end. The car is rust free and had a beautiful paint job already on it when purchased. The car is a metallic purple with Z-28 ghost stripes on the hood and at the bottom of the doors. The color shifts between purple, dark blue and black in strong sunlight. The paint is gorgeous and always draws very favorable comments.
Here is what we did on the restoration:
1. All new seat covers, headliner and carpets installed from Year One catalog. This interior is very close to the original stock interior. Notice in the pictures that all the plastic panels in the rear seat area were covered with stitched vinyl to preserve them.
2. Complete mechanical restoration included all the following:
a. New GM Performance Parts H.O. crate motor; 350 Vortec motor rated at 330 H.P. and 380 ft/lbs of torque. Added a four barrel Holley Street Avenger carb rated at 670 cfm and Hooker Super Comp headers wrapped in heat resistant wrap. Also added an Edlebrock performer intake manifold. The engine came with all brand new components.
b. New Tremec five speed transmission kit designed for a Camaro purchased from Keisler Engineering of Rockport, Tn. The kit contained the transmission, new clutch assembly, new bell housing, custom driveshaft with new speedometer cable. This kit cost $4161. I paid a little extra to get a Hurst shifter with the transmission kit.
c. Complete new rear end which includes an Auburn Limited Slip with Richmond gears (3:7) and Moser stainless axles. The rear end was set up and dialed in by Gary Hood Racing of Severn, Maryland. The rear is a 10 bolt GM 8.5 inch.
d. The car also got all new heavy duty Koni shocks all around and we added a hidden kill switch for security.
The car drives great and is very dependable. I have only driven the car in nice, sunny weather and it is garaged all the time. The car pulls really quick off the line with almost no slip or fish tailing and very little squealing of tires. The Hurst shifter is crisp and true. The transmission has short first and second gears but pulls incredibly hard in third and fourth. The car cruises nicely at 70mph at 2000 rpm. I set this car up to have the best of both worlds; fast off the line and a nice cruiser on the highway for economy and less wear and tear on the motor.
