OK, Charger fans, youve been asking for them, and were delivering. Almost every time we get a great-looking restored Charger in here for a great price, it sells before I can even finish writing about it. The black ones, of course, but not far behind are the red ones like this very clean Rally Red 1970 Charger 500 dressed in full R/T regalia. At this price, if youre in the market, Im urging you not to wait lest you become the next, Sorry, its sold, phone call we get.
This car received an extensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration in 2008. The Charger was driven roughly 1,200 miles afterwards and then we got a hold of it and took it up a few more notches, with a fresh paint job and some detailing. It has been painted in the correct FE5 Rally Red with black buckets, the engine is a 1970 440 with a Six-Pack setup on top, and it has what might be the nicest Chrysler Corporation broadcast sheet Ive EVER seen. No, its not a Hemi, but then again, its not priced like one, either. This one is a spectacular show and go piece that will be much more fun to drive than some trailer queen that costs more than a Harvard education.
I know, I know, the fender tag, what does it say?

First of all, the quarters, trunk, and front floors are all brand new steel on this car, and were professionally installed by a very good body shop. I know Ive said it before, and Ill say it againreplacement panels arent a hang-up if theyre done correctly, and Id much rather have fresh steel on my car than some patched-together stuff that may or may not be the right shape. So yes, this car has new stuff and it looks fantastic. Body gaps are better than factory, too. There was never an FE5 Charger on a dealers lot in 1970 that looked as good as this one does, and I really like the color on this onedeep and rich, and not a bit orange. Its 2-stage paint, so it will look that good practically forever with just a modicum of care and maintenance, making this the ideal cruiser. Best of Show Automotives paint jobs are second to none-this one has been buffed and polished the paint to an incredible mirror-like shine, and if this gorgeous car doesnt get your eyeballs popping at a show, nothing will.
The chrome is equally nice, with that unique-to-1970 front bumper/grille surround being fresh chrome. Out back, the rear bumper is just as nice, while all the stainless has been polished. Both units are brand new and were installed just last week. There are new emblems throughout, and the mirrors and handles are reproduction items that are super sharp. The vinyl top is brand new as well, installed by our shop just last week. Youll also note that this car was updated to R/T specs when it was restored, which includes the correct R/T front trim on the leading edge of the doors and an authentic black bumblebee stripe on the rear of the car. The rear valence with single taillight lens is in great condition, as is the front grille and hidden headlights, a styling cue that defined Mopar in the early 70s. All the glass is in good condition, with a new windshield installed at the time of restoration. Speaking of added during the restoration, youll also notice new stainless Mopar Performance hood pins and hood-mounted turn signal indicators.
The engine is a 1970 440 that was fully rebuilt, and includes the original crank and rods, 10:1 pistons, and a Mopar Performance camshaft for a little extra oomph. The Six-Pack setup is an aftermarket reproduction unit, but has been well tuned and runs extremely well. There are, of course, new valve springs, retainers, and pushrods, and the stock exhaust manifolds were cleaned up and painted cast iron gray for lasting beauty. There is a new Mopar high volume water pump and a fresh fuel pump feeds those three carburetors. Up front theres a fresh 26-inch radiator with a factory clutch fan augmented by an electric unit that helps keep things cool when youre just cruising. It was all detailed nicely, including correctly coded hoses, a new group 27 red cap battery, and a fresh washer fluid bottle, as well as the requisite 440 Magnum Six-Pack air cleaner. This is definitely an engine compartment youll want to show off every time you park the car.
The transmission is a 727 Torqueflite automatic as original that was fully rebuilt with a new torque converter. As long as youre under there looking around, youll notice that the floors have been undercoated (lightly, theres nothing hidden in there), and the suspension components were obviously stripped and repainted. New ball joints, upper and lower tie rods, idler arm and drag link were all stripped and painted to look like cast iron. There are all new bushings all around and fresh stainless fuel and brake lines throughout. The front disc and rear drum brakes were fully rebuilt, too. The exhaust system features Flowmaster mufflers for that distinctive sound, while a new gas tank supplies the go-juice. Its nice under therenot concours, of course, but youll certainly be pointing out to your friends how good it looks. Be sure to point out what a massive upgrade the Magnum 500 wheels and Dunlop radials are over the cars original wire wheel covers and whitewall tires (which are original equipment according to the original invoice).
Inside is more good stuff that makes this car a delight to cruise. The gauges have new decals, and a Tic-Toc-Tach has been added. Obviously the seats, door panels, headliner, and carpet are also new, and it looks great. Although the fender tag, build sheet, and invoice all call for a Music Master AM radio (code R11), this one now sports an aftermarket CD stereo with new Sony speakers throughout for modern entertainment (as if that 440 under the hood isnt entertaining enough). The center console was removed and refurbished, with a new shifter spring and button for positive action. All the door, trunk, and window seals are new, so this car seals up tight and rides like new. The trunk features a new mat, spare, and jack assembly.
There is also considerable history and documentation that goes along with this car. In addition to that perfect Chrysler Corporation broadcast sheet I mentioned, this car also has the original invoice from Hartwin Dodge in Greenfield, Massachusetts showing a total price of $5385.48, not inexpensive in 1970 ...For more information please call the seller.
